Asmar Equestrian would like to offer their sincere congratulations to sponsored rider Sophie Wells and her Gold medal winning British team mates, as the equestrian element of the Para Games concludes at Greenwich Park. Sophie was riding Dr Jackie and Dr Neil Walker’s 15-year-old 17.2hh gelding Pinocchio throughout the contest, and gained individual silver in both the freestyle and individual tests. Sophie also won her team test, which contributed to the Team Gold placing.
The squad competing at the 2012 London Paralympic Games was –
•Sophie Christiansen and Janeiro 6 – Grade Ia
•Lee Pearson and Gentleman – Grade Ib
•Natasha Baker and Cabral – Grade II
•Deb Criddle and Akilles – Grade III
•Sophie Wells and Pinocchio – Grade IV
Sophie Wells, aGrade IV rider, concluded her first Para Games with a personal best in the Grade IV Freestyle of 81.15%, which took her into silver medal position behind Belgium’s Michele George. Sophie said: “Michele has been on good form. I don’t think I could have done any more, preparation wise. I’m absolutely thrilled with my horse. It’s been an absolute dream.”
Sophie had already won her grade in the team test, scoring a personal best at the time of 75.906%, on her Olympic debut. Sophie has ridden ‘”Noki” for three and a half years now. She said: “I go out to do my best. I wasn’t going to let this opportunity get away from me. I just have to thank all the GB support team – the osteopath, saddler, vet, physio, trainer, groom – as this is such a massive team effort just to get them in the right shape to let me do my job. We are so lucky to have funding from UK Sport and the National Lottery, to enable us to bring these people with us to competitions to help us prepare. Noki is an amazing horse to ride, Jackie Walker has been an absolutely amazing owner and I’m so lucky for that, because good horses don’t come around very often.”
We look forward to continuing to support Sophie and wish her warmest regards – and hope she now has the opportunity for a well earned rest!
The Queen’s Jubilee has inspired fashion designers from all over the world; the theme is quite simply – all things Regal.
Style icon Kate Middleton, might be overshadowed this summer as fashion pays homage to her grandmother-in-law with designers promoting a sovereign design twist such as diamonds, fairy cakes, umbrellas and even Corgis!
The latest tote bag from Topshop sports a Corgi design, which we are sure will be snapped up. Dame Vivienne Westwood has created a limited edition, diamond jubilee collection. Westwood has long been inspired by Britannia, which can be seen in her frequent use of Union Jacks and crown motifs. Her latest range, the Red Carpet Capsule Collection, features evening gowns inspired by the Union Jack, which have been re-interpreted using bronze, gold and silver. The collection has also been influenced by gowns her royal highness has previously worn.
Online jeweller Astley Clarke has added a new charm to his existing collection that takes inspiration from the British countryside, tradition and history. The Jubilee inspired charm is a gold tea cup with a scattering of brown diamond tea leaves. Even the Italian fashion designer from Vogue Japan, Anna Dello Russo has named the Queen as her ultimate fashion icon – we can’t help thinking this statement is just good timing!
Harrods commissioned 31 designers from the worlds of fashion, beauty, jewellery and cuisine to each create an elaborate crown in Her Majesty’s honour, which are now all on display in the store’s Brompton Road windows. Fashion designers such as Mulberry, Lanvin, Tiffany & Co, De Beers and Valentino have all created a unique luxury crown for the display.
Get Patriotic – Red, White and Blue Style
Liberty’s has designed a limited edition Jubilee scarf, inspired by the classic British ‘First Class’ stamp, Andy Warhol screen print paintings and the British crown jewels. The ultimate in British footwear, fashion house Hunter, has created two pairs of Union Jack wellies and Rupert Sanderson has designed a pair of patriotic strappy sandals, exclusively for Selfridges.
Teaming the Queen’s love of the outdoor and equestrian lifestyle with the Union Jack, Asmar Equestrian has some gorgeous red, white and blue designer clothing. Their timeless Polo Shirts are the epitome of British style along with the softshell stretchy gillet type vests.
Fashion designer Noel Asmar from Asmar Equestrian is extremely excited about the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations and has always been influenced by British fashion having incorporated regal themes into her designs, she says “The Queen plays a pivotal role in British culture and tradition. She has influenced many designers during her 60 year reign, which has been evident from the number of people wanting to pay homage to her. Red, White and Blue are great colours to work with; White is a perfect base colour and goes with almost anything. Red has the misinterpretation of being a daring colour to wear; it’s the colour of love and passion, which makes it very warming. Blue, especially Navy, is a timeless colour that can easily be dressed up or down. It’s not as ‘safe’ as black, making it the perfect colour no matter what the occasion.”
Noel continues, “Our entire clothing range incorporates the classic British countryside style with strong hints of fashion, something we hope the Queen would love!”
